That gets said a lot... thing is, I've never met anyone that had an abortion that did it for "birth control." I've never even heard of a friend of a friend or a friend of a friend's sister/cousin/etc. doing it for that. I would say that people that would actually use it for "birth control" are few and far between.

Maybe not. US "reported" rape statistics: 2003- 93,883 2004- 95,089 2005- 94,347 2006- 92,757 2007- 90,427 http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htmThese figures are grossly misleading however, as a large percentage of these crimes go unreported. "A recently published eight-year study indicates that when perpetrators of completed rape are current or former husbands or boyfriends, the crimes go unreported to the police 77 percent of the time. When the perpetrators are friends or acquaintances, the rapes go unreported 61 percent of the time. When the perpetrators are strangers, the rapes go unreported 54 percent of the time." http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/ovc/ncvrw/2005/pg5o.htmlI was unable to attain any figures regarding the number of pregnancies that were caused by these incidents.

| all abortions are birth control, in how it controls the birth process. As opposed to birth control in referance to pregnancy prevention.
I once knew a girl that would prevent pregnancy by jumping up and down to shake it all out. |

I wouldn't have said it, if I didn't know anything about it!!! I knew a young lady when I was young and she had 6 with in 3 years. I was so upset about her habit I moved away. I don't know the total of abortions she had before she wised up and use a realistic form of birth control. I don't want to know. I know some women that SHOULD USE BIRTH CONTROL and don't. That's a whole other topic. GGGRRRROARRR

| I don't particularly like the legal reasoning behind Roe v. Wade. And I'll concede that a "right to privacy" used to justify the decision simply doesn't exist in the Constitution.
In a perfect world, I'd like to see the Constitution amended to include that right. But I know that'll never happen.
So as a practical matter... seeings how I WANT a right to privacy- and I reckon that government should keep its laws off peoples' bodies (including abortion, drug policy, and gay rights)- I fully support Roe v. Wade.
It's a sticky question, both philosophically and scientifically, when 'life' begins. Seeings how individual women are the ones who have to squeeze said 'life' out of their vagina, I think the final decision should lie with THEM... not with political/religious whims.
EP- I assume you're aware that your own people traditionally believe that life begins with the first breath. Somehow that tradition didn't get passed down to most of Christianity's current incarnations.

| Sex ed starts at home, if you an open relationship with your kids, and they know what sex is and what can happen when you have sex, like std's and babies, then you just hope they make the right choice when they are in that situation.
I tell my boys to "wrap their willy before they get silly"! I also think it helps that I have a 5 month old and they got to and get to see first hand what having a baby is like. I'll be surprised if they ever have kids!!

Also when the teens see peers make choices in life and get to see how their life goes after the choices good and bad. That's life lessons. Yes ,we need to teach them proper birth control . Thank you to all you parents that do!

You'll get no argument from me here. I'm no fan of abortion in general. But I think this is one of those issues where the excesses of trailer/ghetto trash have to be tolerated. The only alternative is to restrict everybody else's rights.

If you're really serious about avoiding pregnancy... I suggest a combination of two forms of birth control. I know of several kids who owe their existence birth-control failure (including but not limited to broken condoms).
