February 12 is the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, and 2009 marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species, Darwin’s signature work on natural selection. To commemorate these events, Dr. David Armstrong, professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado, will present The Darwinian Revolution: A Progress Report on Saturday, February 21 at 4pm. The talk will take place in the Sternberg Museum’s Engel Educational Center. It is free and open to the public.
Dr. Armstrong holds degrees from Colorado State University (zoology), Harvard University (science education), and the University of Kansas (systematics and ecology). Since 1971, he has taught a wide variety of courses on ecology, environmental studies, mammalogy, vertebrate zoology, and the history of biology, including “The Future of Spaceship Earth” and “The Darwinian Revolution.” He has published a number of books and articles, mostly on mammals in the Great Plains, Rocky Mountains, and Colorado Plateau. Join us on February 21 as we celebrate Darwin’s contributions to science!
